Earth Day At Cafe Campesino

Today we celebrate Earth Day.

Take a moment to consider and appreciate our planet and the delicate balance of elements that allow us life. 

Our environment is at a tipping point in 2021 and many of us are taking stock, mindfully adjusting the way we go about our daily lives in order to live in harmony with the nature that surrounds us, of which we are a part.

At Cafe Campesino, sustainability is key to our business model. It’s the way we approach all aspects of the coffee trade. You can see our commitment through our B Corp certification, our certified organic facility, and in our dedication and ongoing planning to become carbon neutral. Just as critically, we strongly support the work of our farmer partners to farm as sustainably as possible.

In order to better support our farmer partners we contribute to several farmer-led projects that work to reduce the effects of climate change. We work with the Cooperative Coffees Impact Committee to fund projects that make a difference. Every pound of coffee you buy from us supports initiatives ranging from reforestation in Peru to climate change adaptation in Sumatra to farmer field schools in Mexico. We are investing in our partners and a better way of interacting with the environment, and we could not do it without you.

When you buy coffee from us, you are purchasing coffee from small-scale farmers who are committed to deep organic and agroecological practices that help them continue to produce as the climate changes and becomes less friendly to coffee production. Deepening their sustainability, they are also farming in ways that mitigate climate change and not only cut their carbon emissions, but also often sequester carbon in the soil making their farms net-carbon negative. This commitment to truly sustainable practices helps their businesses and communities as well as makes a positive contribution to all of our well-being.

We all have a long way to go and we need to move fast and with conviction if we’re going to slow down climate change. While looking at the way we consume, we have to cast a wide net and ask questions about how the things we use are produced. If you’re looking for coffee that is bird-friendly, organic, shade-grown, and as low-impact as possible, you need look no further.
